Eager to expand her horizons, Smita pursued an Associate’s degree at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), New York. Her time at FIT was marked by academic excellence, graduating Summa Cum Laude, and being selected to showcase her capstone project at the renowned FIT NYC Gallery. During this period, she also interned at New York Fashion Week (NYFW) and with globally celebrated designers, gaining invaluable industry insights.

Post-graduation, Smita worked with the esteemed design house Marchesa, contributing to the creation of exquisite couture garments for elite events such as the Cannes Film Festival, Golden Globe Awards, and other red-carpet occasions. On returning to India, she collaborated with several leading men’s and women’s couture labels, before deciding to pursue her own creative vision.

Turning down prestigious offers from top Indian designers, Smita took a leap of faith—borrowing from her family to launch her namesake label with a dedicated team of five. Since its inception, Smita Shrinivas has rapidly garnered attention for its bold, elegant, and intricately handcrafted pieces.

In a short span, Smita has dressed numerous Bollywood celebrities, with her work receiving acclaim across editorial shoots, red carpets, and private couture appointments. Her designs fuse innovation with timeless elegance, creating pieces that are not only visually arresting but also deeply personal.
